1. What is Collagen?

   Collagen makes up about one-third of the protein in our body. It’s what keeps our skin supple, hair shiny, nails strong and joints moving freely. In fact, up to 75% of our skin is made up of collagen – it’s a major component of the integrity of the outer extracellular matrix (aka what gives you smooth, healthy and glowing skin).

   Collagen can also be found in bones, teeth, tendons, blood vessels, cartilage and even in our digestive tract. It’s a pretty amazing protein and essential to keeping us strong and healthy.

2. What are Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides?

   Hydrolysed Collagen Peptides are 'normal' collagen proteins that have been broken down into shorter chains of amino acids, making them more easily absorbed by the body.

3. Is collagen safe for pregnant and nursing mothers?

   Yes, our collagen is perfectly safe for both pregnant and nursing mothers. If you do have any specific individual concerns we suggest seeking the advice of your local general practitioner.

4. Do your products contain any artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners?

   No, they do not. The Collagen Co. only uses natural colours, flavours and sweeteners.

5. What is hydrolysed collagen, and how is it different from regular collagen?

   Hydrolysed collagen, often referred to as collagen peptides or collagen hydrolysate, is a skincare ingredient that has undergone a transformation to make it more accessible and effective for your skin. 

   This transformation involves a process called hydrolysis, which employs enzymes or heat to break down the larger collagen molecules into smaller, more readily absorbed peptides. As part of this process, our collagen is hydrolysed down to 2kDa (2000 Daltons - tiny molecules better absorbed by the body).

6. What are the potential benefits of taking collagen supplements?

   Our supplements have become popular for all of their wonderful benefits. Some of these include improved skin hydration and elasticity, reduced joint pain and enhanced joint function, stronger hair and nails, support for gut health, increased bone density, better muscle recovery and faster wound healing. 

   While ongoing research supports some of these claims, individual responses to collagen supplements may vary. 

7. Is hydrolysed collagen derived from animals or can it be plant-based?

   Our range is primarily derived from animal sources, such as bovine (cattle) or marine (fish) collagen. These sources provide the raw materials for production of collagen. 

   Plant-based alternatives do not contain collagen, however.

8. How is hydrolysed collagen processed, and does this affect its effectiveness?

   The effectiveness of hydrolysed collagen can be influenced by various factors, including the quality of the source material, the degree of hydrolysis and the processing methods. When hydrolysed properly, collagen can offer several potential benefits for skin, joints, and overall health.

11. Is hydrolysed collagen suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

    No. Our powder is derived from animal sources, such as cattle (bovine) and fish (marine collagen). As a result, it is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. 

12. How long does it take to see results from hydrolysed collagen supplementation? 

    This can vary widely from person to person. Generally, it may take several weeks to a few months of consistent use to observe noticeable improvements, especially where skin health and joint function is concerned. Many of our customers start seeing results in as little as 2-3 weeks.
